- W4387574186 abstract "Measurement of colour is fundamentally different from a measurement of a physical quantity, since colour is the human visual response to an external stimulus. The need for colorimetry and its application to visual and instrumental colour matching is fully explained, along with the basic principles that underpin the CIE system and tristimulus colorimetry. Modern digital instruments have developed from early beginnings in visual colorimeters, and enable precise measurement of emissive, reflective and transmissive stimuli. Methods for expressing the match between stimuli have been developed and standardised, together with the associated ability to specify the magnitude of difference between two stimuli. There are a number of different applications of colour measurement, each with specific geometric requirements in the design of the instrument, and associated performance requirements. Expression of uncertainty is essential in understanding the precision and accuracy of any measurement." @default.
