- W4387578897 abstract "ABSTRACTPolymer membrane plays a vital role in water treatment. Removing heavy metals such as Pb, Cr, Hg, Zn, and Al are the main focus of recent research. The mixed matrix membrane is a current trend with more advantages than the blend membrane. The design of a ternary polymer membrane for the removal of Pb can neglect the drawbacks associated with the single or blend membrane, such as hydrophilicity, flexibility, mechanical strength, and, most significantly, they have better adsorption capacity. Thus, PEI/CS/PU as a ternary polymer blend can show a hydrophilic measurement of 66.5° after incorporating TiO2/Fe2O3 nanocomposites. The significant functional group confirmations, crystallinity, and elemental compositions were confirmed via FTIR, XRD, and XPS after casting the membrane through the phase inversion technique. Also, incorporating nanomaterials has played a vital role in increasing the thermal stability of prepared ternary membranes. Furthermore, the membrane showed a pore diameter of 1.893 m2/g by BET analysis. The significant functional groups such as ether, imide, polyols, hydroxyl groups, and carbohydrates have helped enhance the batch adsorption experiment of TiO2/Fe2O3@PEI/CS/PU. The TiO2/Fe2O3@PEI/CS/PU system is well fitted with Freundlich isotherm at R2 = 0.97577. Hence, TiO2/Fe2O3@PEI/CS/PU membrane can be a potential adsorbent for Pb removal from water sources.KEYWORDS: ChitosanisothermkineticsPb removalPolyetherimide, polyurethane, and TiO2/Fe2O3 AcknowledgmentsI would like to thank SRMIST for funding the research scholarship scheme and ALS Testing Service Private Limited for analyzing the samples.Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Author ContributionValidation and Supervision – Kalaivizhi RajappanMethodology, Resources & Writing – Balaganesh DanagodyReview & Editing – Neeraja BoseAdditional informationNotes on contributorsBalaganesh DanagodyBalaganesh Danagody The author have completed his Masters in Polymer Chemistry from University of Madras, Guindy campus.
