- W4387602002 abstract "Microorganisms are more beneficial than being dangerous for humans. Microbial secondary metabolites and other bioactive compounds are revealed to be highly used in biotechnological fields like medicine, pharmacology, and industrial fields like food, agriculture, and construction. Drug resistance, environmental pollution, and climate change problems call for scientists to search for new natural compounds. Because of the high production ability of microorganisms and their manipulation facilities, these organisms are preferred over others. Actinomycetes are a group of bacteria known for their distribution over diverse environments, including ecosystems with extreme living conditions. These gram-positive, spore-forming bacteria are also characterized by high GC contents in their DNA molecules. Their most studied and ubiquitous genus is Streptomyces, which is reported to synthesize nearly 40% of the microbially synthesized antibiotics. In recent years, attention has been drawn to rare actinobacteria. This chapter summarizes the studies conducted in this phylum, particularly in the last 5 years, to synthesize the applications of biological compounds synthesized from actinomycetes. Some fields are more studied than others, and through this chapter, the less studied sectors where actinomycetes promise high-potential use will be more obvious for future research areas." @default.
