- W4387622980 abstract "Nanotechnology has occurred as an emergent domain of medical science in recent years as it can be used in almost all aspects and overcomes the majority of the restrictions of existing technological sectors. Among different nanoplatforms, metal-based nanostructures have received significant attention from scientists worldwide because of a plethora of applications such as antimicrobial, antibiofilm, targeted delivery of drugs, and anticancer potentials. Although different approaches such as mechanical milling, laser ablation, spinning, and chemical deposition are used for nanoparticle (NP) synthesis, the use of hazardous chemicals and the cost of the procedure make it improper for continuous fabrication. Nonetheless, the rise in environmental concerns has contributed to developing ecologically friendly production techniques. As a result, to integrate the mutual benefits of natural resources and nanotechnology, green NP fabrication has lately gained much interest. Green synthesis has been perceived as a valuable approach for fabricating metal-based NPs due to its advantages, including simplicity, eco-friendliness, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. In addition, desired size, surface charge, morphology, and other properties could be achieved by using different biological approaches. Thereby, biological resources can be considered innovative nanofactory for bioengineering bioactive NPs. Hence, this chapter intends to discuss the advancements achieved in NP in recent years, biogenesis via different sources of biological substrates and methodologies such as bacteria, plant extracts, fungi, and algae as reducing and capping agents, and the impact of various resources on the properties of NPs. This chapter also covers recent advances in large-scale manufacturing and prospects for NPs." @default.
