- W4387627838 abstract "Recent studies are focusing on the impact that aerosols are having in the solar energy production and in the climate change in general. Aerosol particles in the atmosphere are produced both in nature and by people and in brief they reduce the energy generation potential of solar panels by absorbing and scattering light, reducing the strength of the direct beam. The measurements of aerosol particle optical properties, such as light scattering and absorption, together with measurements of their physical and chemical properties, are fundamental for understanding the current impact that they have in all the relative fields. One critical quantity of interest for these applications is the aerosol extinction coefficient (σep), which is the sum of the absorption coefficient (σap) and the scattering coefficient (σsp). Particle scattering coefficient is measured with an integrating nephelometer and according to aerosol absorption coefficient, currently there are two approaches in use for its measuring, the filter-based particle light absorption photometers and photoacoustic spectrometers. LIDAR (light detection and ranging) measurements are a great technique that provides knowledge of the vertical distribution of aerosol particles, which is a quantity important for the calculation of aerosol optical depth and surface-based measurements of scattering and absorption coefficients. In the field of solar energy production with the use of photovoltaic (PV) panels, aerosols, and dust, worldwide, are a significant factor that affects the efficiency and productivity of PV structures. The detection of aerosol, both from ground-based stations and instrumentation as well as from satellite equipment and networks, is a fundamental factor that provides the scientific community with great amount of information and data relevant to all the important knowledge of aerosol particles and their behavior and characteristics." @default.
