- W4387627895 abstract "The objective of our study was to identify and evaluate the stages with highest energy consumption; we also assessed the main environmental impacts as a result of oil palm production from the cradle to the factory gate in Mojú, Pará, Brazil. The life cycle assessment was carried out based on the research and collection of information on the cultivation, during seedling production, prenursery, nursery, and production stages. The results showed that throughout the agricultural phase, the stages with highest environmental impacts and highest energy consumption were the nursery and the harvest stages. It may be due to the use of synthetic fertilizers and the fossil diesel burning during the transportation of bunches. The categories with the highest rates of greenhouse gas emissions were climate change and fossil depletion. Spending on transportation and nitrogen fertilization was the biggest cause of environmental impacts and energy consumption in the oil palm production process." @default.
