- W4387631706 abstract "Siderophores (SPs) are secondary metabolites generated by a variety of organisms that scavenge iron from their environment while allowing the cell to acquire this essential nutrient. Because organisms have a strong affinity for ferric iron, SPs are produced to generate soluble ferric complexes that may be taken up by them. Possessing complicated chemistry, SPs generate the strongest iron-chelating complexes and are primarily of four kinds, which are described in the chapter, as they have a variety of uses in the fields of environmental, agricultural, and pharmaceutical research. In recent years, they have attracted a lot of attention. SPs are important for weathering soil minerals and encouraging plant development; they also serve as biocontrol agents, biosensors, bioremediation agents, and chelation agents. Moreover, their uses in medicine are also undeniable. They use the “Trojan horse technique” to build complexes with antibiotics, allowing antibiotics to be delivered selectively to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Furthermore, SPs are also beneficial in treating illnesses related to iron imbalances. This chapter briefly covers the production of SPs by bacteria, along with the significance and uses of SPs in various fields." @default.
