- W44061295 abstract "Aim People react differently in stressful situations, not only in a behavioural way but also in a physiological way. One way to measure stress reactions is to record deviations in the electrodermal activity. Several aspects might influence reactions, one of them is personality. Various researchers tried to gain insight into the impact of the expressivity of the personality trait extraversion as a variable influencing the stress reaction. Results of these former studies extremely varied in their results. For this reason this study was designed to reveal the influence of extraversion during intense stress induction. Methods 63 students under 30 years participated in this study. First everyone filled in the extraversion domain of a personality test (NEO-PI-R) to determine the level of extraversion. Subsequently all participants had to take part in the Trier Social Stress Test (including preparating for a speech, giving a speech and performing a mental arithmetic task, each five minutes) while wearing a Q-Sensor to measure Skin Conductance Response and Skin Conductance Level. Results For the data-analyses a 2 x 4 x 5 ANOVA was used, with minutes and phases of the TSST (+baseline) as within subject variables and personality as in between subject variable. Results show that there is no influence of extraversion on SCR/SCL. Discussion This research provides insight into the influence of the expressiveness of the personality trait extraversion on the stress response of people during high stress induction. Due to the population tested, results are valid for the broad population." @default.
