- W44559095 abstract "Micro- and Nanoindentation technique has become a standard method for material testing of mechanical properties recently. Especially, indentation method with Oliver and Pharr theory for an analysis of isotropic elastic materials is very strait forward and become a part of every indenter’s software. Some multidirectional indentation analyses have been successfully applied on bone tissues such as cortical osteons and trabecular lamellae to identify their local elastic orthotropic or transverse isotropic properties. Present nanoindenters make possible an acquisition of creep and relaxation data, for that a model of creep or relaxation function can be found in the literature and the viscoelastic material parameters are derived.Our previous structural and mechanical studies of porcine intervertebral disc (IVD) and its parts showed clear viscoelastic behavior of tissue. Annulus fibrosus (AF) responses on cyclic, relaxation and ultimate tensile tests proved its viscoelastic manner. Annulus fibrosus is hierarchical structure made up with bundles of collagen fibers within the lamellae. We developed the mathematic geometrical model of IVD, where we respect such a lamellar structure with one lamella as a representative volume element (RVE). Our RVE is supposed to be locally orthotropic with main material directions along the collagen fiber orientation. We try to feed this model on material constants of RVE obtained by nanoindentation and show the nanoindentation technique’s state of art in a material description of hierarchical tissues." @default.
