Although this personality type has been included in standard international nosologic systems (ICD-9), it has never been recognized in DSM. This literature review identifies and explores the issues relevant to the possible inclusion of such a category--an axis II personality disorder linked to axis I depressive disorder--in the upcoming DSM-IV.
