However, a horse’s small size does not limit significantly its capacity as a draught, pack or riding animal: a well proportioned pony can be as enduring as a horse. This paper presents a short overview of the current state of research on horse size in Eurasia from the First Iron Age to the Late Roman Empire and the Dark Ages, and for the first time summarizes the available evidence on horse size during the Iberian Iron Age (7th to 1st centuries BC), showing a pattern that closely resembles that of Central and Western Europe.Keywords: Horses.
