• W45150970 abstract "AbstractObjectives/ Background:In 1995 Kjell Midtbo, cardiologist at Ulleval University Hospital (UUH), registered medicaments used in the treatment of 196 patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP) referred to coronary angiography at UUH. In the last decade the benefits of treating patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP) with a statin have been well proven. Also, PCI-treatment has become more available, and more patients are now being treated with PCI. We wanted to investigate whether these changes had had an impact on the medical treatment of patients with SAP.Method:We registered medication used by patients with symptoms of SAP referred to coronary angiography at UUH from Oct. 2004 and Feb. 2005. Antianginal-, antithrombotic- and lipidlowering drugs were registered. Results:195 patients were included, average age 61,8. 86 % of the patients were taking at least one antianginal drug. This was a significant decrease compared to 1995 (97 %, p<0,001). Betablockers were the most frequently used antianginal drugs (81 %). 88,5 % were taking at least one antithrombotic drug, with ASA as the most prevalent (82 %). This was an increase compared to 1995 when only 72 % of the patients were using ASA (p<0,05). 72 % of the patients used a statin, and this was a highly significant increase compared to 1995 (22 %, p<0,001). Conclusion:From 1995 to 2005 there has been a decrease in antianginal drug-therapy, an increase in use of ASA and a substantial increase in use of statins in the medical treatment of patients with SAD referred to coronary angiography at UUH." @default.
