- W45214251 abstract "465 Objectives We have assessed the potential performance of a dedicated cardiac SPECT scanner for estimation of kinetic parameters of Tc-99m-teboroxime, and compared it to that of a conventional dual-head gamma camera. Methods Cramer-Rao bounds (CRB) on precision of estimates of kinetic parameters were calculated from experimental high-count, separate acquisitions of compartments of a torso phantom (left ventricle, myocardium, defect, lungs, liver, background) both on a dedicated cardiac system (D-SPECT, Spectrum Dynamics) and a conventional SPECT/CT system (Symbia; Siemens). CRB were calculated from essentially noise-free dynamic projection datasets, synthesized by scaling and summing the compartment projection datasets, according to published time-activity curves (Phys. Med. Biol. 45: 2619). The model incorporated 8 unknown parameters; 3 kinetic parameters each for the myocardium and the defect, and two for the liver. Parameters for other structures, including the LV, were assumed known. Total detected counts (for the conventional system) varied from 500k to 50M; corresponding values for the higher-sensitivity dedicated system varied from 1.5M to 150M. Estimation-task-specific SNR were calculated as the ratio of the true parameter value to the square root of its CRB. Results SNR for estimation of myocardial kinetic parameters were higher for the dedicated system by a factor of ~2.4; SNR for estimation of myocardial defect parameters were higher for the dedicated system by a factor of ~1.6. These values represent the best possible performance for each system, assuming perfect system modeling, the capability to rapidly acquire data, and an unbiased, efficient method of estimating global structure parameters from the projection dataset. Conclusions The dedicated cardiac system has significantly improved potential for estimating kinetic parameters of teboroxime, compared to conventional systems.
