- W45886077 abstract "The negative relationship between wife-dominated marital decision making and marital adjustment reported in several earlier studies was usually viewed to result from violations of institutionalized social norms andjor the spouses' role-expectations. However, none of these studies included information regarding the spouses' norms or pre ferences; they also failed to treat marital adjustment as a multi dimensional concept. The purpose of this study is to test hypotheses regarding relationships between marital decision-making and marital adjustment. Data from a study of 52 Pennsylvania couples support the assumption that the spouses' perceived ability to implement desired decision-making patterns (their decision-making satisfaction) is a better predictor of the husbands' marital adjustment than the imple mentation of specific decision-making styles which supposedly represent institutionalized social norms and/or role-expectations of both spouses. It is also shown that satisfaction with decision-making has differential effects on different dimensions of marital adjustment. Behavioral data from a subgroup of this sample provide further prooffor the assumption that it is not leadership behavior per se, but causation of desired out comes which contributes to the husbands'' marital satisfaction." @default.
