- W47042432 abstract "What can make teachers for young children more competent and keep their teaching always fresh? What encourages early childhood teachers to strive to be more qualified and to improve their teaching methods? I'd like to discuss these questions to help my students who are teacher candidates for young children. When I was teaching at a preschool as a novice teacher, I kept five goldfish in a fish bowl in the science section of my classroom. One day, some children came to me, shouting, goldfish is dead. I asked the children how we should deal with the dead fish. They suggested that the fish should be buried them in the ground. While interring the fish, one of the children shouted The fish will go to In South Korea, roughly 40% of all Koreans are Buddhists, 30% are Christians, and the remaining 30 % either believe in Confucianism or do not have a religion. Then, another student asked the first child, How can you be sure ? mother told me everything goes to heaven after answered the first child. His mother seemed to be a Christian and believed in afterlife. Following this, a third child asked when the fish would go to heaven, and the first one said they would go tonight. Then, a fourth child said, Let's come here and see it go to heaven tonight without sleeping. Good idea! Because while we are sleeping, they'll go there, let's come here tonight and see. Finally, a fifth child said that if they dig up the ground the next morning, they would see whether the goldfish went to heaven or remained in the ground. After their argument, the five children all looked up at me with a great amount of curiosity and asked me, do you think of our idea? At that moment, being embarrassed, I didn't know how to answer their question, because the scene was too different from what I had learned in college. After several months, the beginning of June, we talked about the Memorial day in Korea. One child defined the meaning of the Memorial day was that we need to appreciate for soldiers who had deserved to die to fight against enemy for saving our country during the Korea war. other child asked me Now, goldfish we buried is playing with soldiers in heaven. I was surprised to hear that because I had never expected my children to remember that goldfish. I had almost forgotten about that incident until he reminds me to realize that. My pupil who asked about that question became to understand about the term of death based on his previous experience related to death such as grandfather's death, puppy's death, or goldfish's death. At that moment, I had to be considerate to response to my children who wanted to know about whether goldfish and soldiers plays together in heaven. As an early childhood teacher, I should make my own judgment and decision that are the most appropriate for dynamic classroom situations. Now, as a college professor, I need to consider about what is necessary to assist teachers to continue to develop new instructional methods. Thus, teachers should evaluate their own teaching process, that is, be reflective about the process. Reflective thinking involves a process where experts raise questions based on their expertise, solve the problems when they face them, make a final decision, and examine the procedure to draw generalizations (Mewborn, 1999). According to one preservice teacher's experience, she told a child a story in which dirt spoke like a man. child then asked how dirt could speak. preservice teacher who had learned that children of pre-operational stage believe in animism that inanimate things also have life wondered why the child asked the question, when she/he should have already believed in animism. preservice teacher was not aware of individual differences, even though children's ages may be the same at the pre-operational stage. As far as my personal experiences are concerned, I learned much more about child psychology and children's attitudes while teaching at a preschool through actually interacting with children than I had learned in college. …" @default.
