- W47667161 abstract "This chapter discusses interconversion of purine ribonucleotides. It also discusses adenylate and guanylate synthesis from inosinate and inosinate synthesis from guanylate and adenylate. Studies of the nutritional requirements for purines of certain microorganisms led to the recognition that adenine and guanine—or their derivatives—could be interconverted. Purines can be interconverted in the course of the incorporation of bases into nucleic acids; it remained to determine whether this was accomplished at the level of the bases themselves, through the ribonucleosides or ribonucleotides, or at more than one level. Inosinate was the end product of the pathway of de novo synthesis and that adenylate and guanylate were the first metabolites formed in the course of the incorporation into nucleic acids of adenine and guanine, were most consistent with interconversion at the ribonucleotide level. This conclusion has been confirmed in all subsequent studies with animal cells." @default.
