- W48664402 abstract "Based on the available literature, both radiation accidents and incidents are reviewed for the USA and the United Kingdom. The hazard to professionally exposed persons is compared with the accident risk in other branches of industry. In East Germany, approximately 30,000 persons 10.2 percent of the population) are presently employed in professions involving radiation exposure. For more than 96 percent of the personnel, the radiation burden is less than 0.5 rem/year. Only for about one percent of the personnel, the burden ranges from 1.5 to 5.0 rem/year. It appears feasible that the radiation burden can be reduced to 10 percent of the permissible limit for all professionally exposed individuals. (HBG)" @default.
