Este tema tem-se revelado de grande interesse na comunidade academica e cientifica pois acredita-se que trabalhadores empenhados tornam-se uma vantagem competitiva para as organizacoes. Mas, as novas formas de trabalho com que se depara esta nova geracao de trabalhadores, fazem com que as organizacoes tenham que repensar novas estrategias para manter empenhada esta nova forca de trabalho. The article provides a summary of studies on organizational commitment, emphasizing the consequences, both for the individuals and the organizations, the factors that influence it and the controversies that still exist about its nature. The lack of consensus on the nature and dimensions of organizational commitment has led the authors to address this issue, which has assumed a prominent role in explaining the different types of relationships that are established between individuals and organizations. This theme has proved to be of great interest in the academic and scientific community because it is believed that committed workers become a competitive advantage for organizations. However, the new forms of work that this new generations of workers face, make organizations have to rethink new strategies to maintain this new workforce committed.
