- W48931143 abstract "Endocrine-paracrine cells are specialized cells scattered in the epithelium lining the gastric glands, intestinal crypts, and villi. They are characterized by secretory granules, which, as a rule, are concentrated in the basal part of the cytoplasm, while the Golgi complex is supranuclear. In the pyloric and intestinal mucosa, most of such cells reach the lumen in a narrow, specialized area showing tufts of microvilli and a centriole; this area probably acts as a receptor surface facing the luminal contents (Solcia et al. 1967). Such a pattern suggests some functional polarity of the cell (Figs. 1, 2). In the fundic mucosa endocrine-paracrine cells lack luminal contacts and show less evident polarity (Solcia et al. 1975)." @default.
