- W49206461 abstract "ABSTRACT The Monod growth theory would suggest that an organism requires a unit amount of nutrient (a ration) to reproduce itself, and quantitatively that this would depend upon the conditions prevailing for growth in the culture. However, it is not known how the ration is utilised: do cells acquire it slowly, intermittently, or at one time? Some feeding experiments conducted with phased culture of Candida utilis are described which show that mother cells develop preferentially under reduced supplies of the limiting nutrient and that the initial concentration of the nutrient is important." @default.
