Initiation of germination occurred when the gravimetricmoisture content ranged from 4% to 8% for the three crops. Agravimetric moisture content greater than 192 significantlydecreased germination and emergence. Emergence was delayed by oneor two days when the soil was at higher bulk density in the lowmoisture content ran es. Rate of emergence was faster at a bulkdensity of 1.45 g cmS than at either 1.55 or 1.65 g om-$. In thewet moisture range, the rate of emergence was faster at all thethree bulk densities than in the dry moisture ranges. Emergenceincreased with increase in moisture content.
