- W496664 abstract "The magnitudes and patterns of two-point difference limens (DL) of the tongue were studied in children with and without articulation errors. DL measurements were made at three tongue sites (left, tip, and right) in children with normal speech (N = 15). children with misarticulations of /s/ (N = 15), and children with misarticulations of /r/ ( N = 15). Three patterns of lingual two-point perception were found. In the first, absolute DL’s did not vary significantly with tongue site. The second pattern was characterized by lateral asymmetries (i.e. different right and left limens), and the third pattern involved significantly smaller limens on the tongue tip than on the lateral sites. Many children with misarticulations of /r/ had DL’s which differed in magnitude and pattern from those of children with normal articulation and from those of children with misarticulations of /s/, as well as from other children with misarticulations of /r/. These findings suggest a relationship between lingual two-point perception and articulatory accuracy in some subgroups of children." @default.
