Humphreys, R. M. Abstract Image-tube spectrograms at 83 A mm -1 and 90 A mm -1 have been obtained of AE And and the Hubble-Sandage variables AF And (variable 19 in M31) and variables B, C, and 2 in M33. The spectra of these extragalactic supergiants are described in detail in the paper. The spectra of all five stars have a strong, hot continuum with no Balmer discontinuity. The emission-line spectrum of AE And is very much like Car, and it is suggested that all five stars may be related to objects like Car and S Dor.
