While diffusion perpendicular to step subjects to an impediment due to the additional trapping at the step sites, diffusion parallel to steps shows enhancement over terrace in various ways. At high temperatures, all three types of stepped surfaces show the contribution to mass transport by the fast step edge diffusion. At low temperatures, a third channel, which exists only for A- and AB-type steps, also contributes to a diffusion enhancement." @default.
