- W54893586 abstract "Dopamine content is elevated in the carotid body of newborn rats and is associated with a blunted chemoreflex during the first few days of life (Hertzberg & Hellstrom, 1990). The purpose of this study was to establish the presence of mRNA coding for the D2-dopamine receptor (D2-R) in the carotid body and petrosal ganglia in the cat, and compare the levels of expression of D2-R mRNA in these tissues at two stages during development. We hypothesized that D2-R mRNA would be present in both the carotid body and petrosal ganglia. Because of the blunted chemoreflex observed at birth, we further hypothesized that there would be a greater expression of the mRNA coding for the D2-R in the petrosal ganglia and less in the carotid body at birth than at 14 weeks postnatal age." @default.
