- W5544963 abstract "Of all possible Cr species, Cr(III) alone is believed to be carcinogenic. Whereas CR(VI) exerts mutagenic effects in most cellular short-term test systems (Venitt and Levy 1974; Bianchi et al 1983), only Cr(III) showed these effects in cell-free systems (Bianch and Levis 1984). Cr(III) preferentially binds to GC-rich regions of DNA (Tamino et al 1981), thereby inducing DNA-DNA or DNA-protein crosslinks (Fornace et al (1981). Furthermore, it increases the infidelity of DNA-polymerase (Sirover and Loeb 1976). This study shows by means of 31P-NMR spectroscopy the formation of complexes from nucleotides triphosphates and Cr(III), which was simultaneously gained from Cr(VI) by reduction with GSH. In addition, the influence of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) on the melting properties of nucleic acids was examined." @default.
