- W55726536 abstract "Background: The cause of acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage most frequently is located in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Previous surgical procedures such as intestinal anastomoses may be predisposing bleeding sites. Methods: We report on a patient who had received gastroenteroanastomosis for duodenal atresia as a newborn. 35 years later she presented with recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding from an anastomotic ulceration. Results: Endoscopic treatment was initially successful. Because of the predisposing anatomical situation of a gastrojejunostomy without Braun anastomosis surgical correction was recommend and performed 10 days later. 2 years post operation, the patient is now completely free of symptoms. Conclusions: Even after long periods of time (>30 years), life-threatening upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage may occur after non-optimal neonatal surgery." @default.
