- W55873610 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter describes the procedures used for the bioluminescence assay for 3´-phosphoadenosine-5´-phosphosulfate (PAPS), the chemical synthesis of luciferyl sulfate, and the preparation of the enzymes required. Sulfate incorporation into biological molecules is dependent upon pre-activation of the sulfate by attachment to a nucleotide. The sulfate group of PAPS in turn can be transferred to several acceptors by means of a sulfotransferase, which transfers sulfate to many different compounds, such as steroids, phenolic compounds, aromatic amines, and cerebrosides. Most of the chemistry of PAPS production and utilization has been studied by the use of radioactive sulfur. The radioactive techniques require the final sulfur-containing compound to be separated from contaminating labeled-sulfur compounds. The assay techniques can be very sensitive, but also very tedious." @default.
