- W5597611 abstract "Abstract The sex steroids have for years been considered to be sex specific with regard to bone metabolism: estrogens as the key determinant of bone metabolism in women; testosterone (T) as the key determinant in men. New evidence with regard to the effect of sex steroids on each sex's bone has led to a revision of this earlier belief. With respect to men, convincing new evidence from multiple lines of investigation shows clearly that estrogen (E) is an important, if not the dominant, sex steroid in regulating male bone metabolism. Insights from the studies on the skeletal effects of E in men may also help reshape our thinking on the role of E in other aspects of men's health." @default.
