- W56003856 abstract "The general population, not related as palients, can not be considered completely Jree of Cranio Mandibular Dysfimction (CMD) because epidemiological studies have been showing that up to 70% of a/eatory individuais present signs or symptoms C!f this disorder. We believe Jhey can injluence lhe results and conc/usions. Our purpose, based on this supposition, was to study two homogeneous sub-groups: individuais, classi.fted by Helkimo 's Index as completely free of signs and symptoms (Ai O, DiO) and with CMD (Ai II or Di ll-111). These samples were analyzed considering the Occ/usion bule:~; (O i) and through a psychological test, Goldberg 's General Health Questionnaire (GHQ). We examined 50 peop/e, -1 men and 46 women, qfjected with CMD (aged i3--19 years oldwith a mean of 28.1 years) and 50 more, 14 men and 36 women, without CMD (aged 20-56 years o/dwith a mean of 25.1 years). Our resuits were tested by chi-square. We concluded that maiocclusian was slightly more prevalenle in CDM individuais, although not significant. Stress and other psychological factors were also slightly higher in individuais wilh CMD, wilh significance for s/eep disturbances. lhe association of both factors were dislributed evenly between the two groups, but the simultaneous absence of the factors was significantly higher in the peop/e with no signs and symptoms. Se/f-related bntxism and oral parafunctions were slightiy higher in CMD individuais with significance for clenching. lhe association hetween malocclusion and bruxism wa~ similar for both groups, but the associalion between stress and bruxism was signijicantly higher for CMD individuais. Key-words: Craniomandibular Dysjunction, malocclusion, stress, psychologica/factors, etiology. Autorizo a reproducao xerografica deste trabalho Sao .Jose dos Campos, 19 de agosto de 1999." @default.
