• W560319369 abstract "Most of the work described in this thesis was conducted at the Oil and Gas development corporation (OGDC) in Islamabad, Pakistan. The reasons for conducting the research work at this company were: 1) I have already completed my Bachelor's thesis in the department of Seismic interpretation of this company, thus, have good understanding of interpreting seismic data; 2) I have been actively involved in organizing lectures and seminars on seismic exploration techniques in this company; 3) Over the past decade this company has demonstrated great success in the exploration of natural resources throughout the country. The latter three reasons argue most powerfully for the location of the research work conducted. As the need of energy is increasing we need to explore more natural resources and for this purpose Reflection Seismic exploration techniques are very significant because of their high resolution and great penetration, the research findings are potentially useful in this regard. Structural interpretation of subsurface in Meyal area was carried out with the help of seismic data. A total of 23 seismic lines were obtained for interpretation from Land mark resources(LMKR), Pakistan. The data was acquired by Pakistan Oil Fields Limited (POL) in December,1993. Three reflectors are marked, named as R1 (Kohat formation of early Eocene age), R2(Chorgali formation of middle Eocene age) and R3 (Datta formation of late Jurassic age). All the major and minor faults in the area are marked on the basis of breaks in the continuity of reflections. Using reflection time, two way time contour maps are made for different marked horizons. The resulting time contour maps showed similar patterns with the seismic section. Displacements are measured for the major southern and northern thrust faults of the area to understand the structural trend in the area. The seismic data interpretation was then correlated with the regional structure and tectonics of the area. The seismic interpretation and geological information together produced a reliable picture of the reflectors and the structure lying in the sub surface of the area. Finally a 3-D image of the structure and the faults bounding it is produced by the help of Kingdom software." @default.
