- W56557314 abstract "High temperature aqueous electrochemical techniques have been used to investigate the corrosion of carbon steel in environments characteristic of sour gas production. Such environments contain varying amounts of H 2 S, CO 2 , and hydrocarbons in a brine medium at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 250°C. The investigations show that the growth of a pyrrhotite scale on the steel surface by outward iron migration and the subsequent dissolution of the scale are the major mechanisms of corrosion. At steady state, the growth of the sulfide scale is balanced by its dissolution, leading to a constant thickness of the scale. The presence of elemental sulfur in the environment as an additional corrodent significantly accelerates the scale growth step in the corrosion process." @default.
