- W567866834 abstract "A turbo-charged 250 horsepower diesel engine was directly coupled to a dynamometer under laboratory conditions with appropriate instrumentation. At each rpm/torque point the engine first operated on diesel oil alone, and then increasing quantities of propane were induced into the air intake until detonation occurred. The results indicate that the proportion of propane that can safely be induced into a diesel engine varies considerably with rpm and torque So that a sophisticated metering system would be required to maximize diesel oil displacement by propane. The price differential between propane and diesel oil is not sufficient to make the conversion to a dual diesel/propane mode cost effective at 1983 price levels. (Author/TRRL)" @default.
