- W568565570 abstract "This article presents proposals for a national accelerated pavement testing facility (APTF) in India, which will quickly specify the required improvements and innovations in design and maintenance technology, in a cost-effective way. In 1971, the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) formulated its Guidelines for Structural Design for Bituminous Pavements, and in 1984 it modified them. These guidelines do not meet current requirements in many ways, and are now being revised. They need to be supported by proper scientific studies, including those in accelerated pavement testing (APT). APT uses the controlled application of a prototype wheel loading to a prototype or actual pavement system, and measures pavement response, performance, and damage during a compressed time period. Thus it enables lifetime pavement performance to be assessed under rapid test loadings. The paper discusses the proposed test road section and APTF, with both circular and linear test tracks. APT can be applied to test and measure various aspects of pavement performance, pavement response (using mathematical models), material response, and performance-based specifications. Two types of data acquisition systems are required, to measure parameters under loading operation, and when the loads are no longer being applied." @default.
