- W568686665 abstract "The Scottish Road Safety Campaign (SRSC) first made a 'workbook' diary available to all primary schools in Scotland in 1995-96, and issued an updated version to all schools in 1997-98. The workbook was designed to prompt regular road safety input in the primary curriculum, and pupils were encouraged to use it during school holidays as well as terms. This report presents the SRSC's evaluation of the use of workbook diaries during 1997-98. Its aims and objectives were to: (1) determine how far the diaries were being used by Scottish primary schools; (2) assess how teachers and pupils were using them; and (3) obtain the views of both teachers and pupils on the diary format and content. The first phase was a quantitative survey, based on a 50% sample of primary schools with an anticipated response rate of 50%, giving a base of 500-600 responses. The second phase was to be a qualitative study, involving interviews and groups of pupils in 8-10 primary schools. The main body of the report contains the findings from the two phases and a section for discussion and decision. Separate appendices detail the research methodology and analyses. The survey responses showed that 84% of primary schools received the diaries for 1997-98 and 94% of those schools used them.
