- W57018172 abstract "Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is difficult to treat. Patients often ascribe their fatigue and pain to physiological causes, resulting in a period of being less active. After this period CFS-patients tend to overcompensate, which in turn leads to more fatigue and pain. Roessingh revalidation centre tries to break this downward spiral with AAFTEL. A treatment using a system consisting of a movement sensor and a PDA to make patients more aware of their own activitypattern, by converting movementaccelerations into a graph which can be compared to a graph showing the norm. Patients are given the task to conform to this norm with the help of advices given every two hours. The two main research questions are:1.Do the advices have an added value when it comes to conforming an activitypattern to a given norm?2.Is ambulatory feedback useful outside the traditional treatment setting?41 Healthy participants used the system for one day from 8am till 6pm. They were divided into two groups. A control group which used to system programmed in the same way as it is used for treating CFS. And a intervention group using the system programmed the same way but without getting advices every two hours. Data was analysed by comparing percentual differences between the norm and participants’ activity levels. After the measurement, participants were given a questionnaire to test the usability of the system. Statements used in the questionnaire derived from the following four constructs: perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, social factors, and compliance. No significant discrepancies were found in average percentual differences between the two groups. Participants were positive about the usability of the system, although they didn’t find it useful for themselves. Participants were less positive about the size and weight of the system. To make this treatment as effective as possible, the following points have to be taken into account:-Individual differences and wishes should be taken into account-The system should be as small and light as possible-Technical problems should be minimized-Feedback should be tailored-Prevent patients becoming dependent on advices to ensure the learning process" @default.
