- W573041707 abstract "This paper discusses the thermal efficiency of SI (spark ignited) and CI (combustion ignited) engines from the view point of fundamental cycle theory. Comparison of the results of the theoretical approach and practical engine tests show the defects of the present SI and CI engines. Two methods of improving the indicated thermal efficiency from the theoretical standpoint are proposed: variable valve timing and egr method.
