- W57304342 abstract "IN LINGUISTICS the word accent is used as a more general term for stress. To the layman it means speaking a language in a way that betrays the speaker's national or geographical background. The music often lingers on for generations and with it the very soul of the old tongue seems to survive. It is in fact the most significant part of the linguistic substratum which, according to the substratum theory, explains such phenomena as the diversity of the neo-Latin languages and the Ger-" @default.
