It is a focus for economic and industrial development, a commercial centre, a major shopping centre, and a tourist area. Therefore, it is increasingly important to meet the parking needs of those who live in and use the city. Through its Car Park Services, Norwich City Council (NCC) is the main provider of public parking. It provides a car park management service to: (1) implement its car parking and transport policies; (2) maximise the use of its assets; and (3) deliver a quality service to promote Norwich as the main retailing and commercial centre of East Anglia. 6237 parking spaces are provided 24 hours per day in 4 multi-storey car parks, 21 surface car parks, and 3 park-and-ride sites. This article states the objectives of NCC's car parking marketing strategy, developed and approved in 1996, and a customer research survey. The survey sought detailed information about people using parking facilities in Norwich, as a basis for future service development and planning. Its objectives were to identify customers and their needs, and find their level of satisfaction with current services. The article details the findings of the survey, where 5000 self-completion questionnaires were distributed to NCC car park customers on three days in October 1996." @default.
