- W573805239 abstract "Some who have studied the problems of selecting an efficient design for the midship section of seagoing ships have advocated the use of both double sides and slope sides whenever justified. There have been some proponents of this approach in the design of seagoing lumber carriers. Some specialists object, saying that double sides on such ships increase hull mass, reduce carrying capacity, and create spaces that are difficult to reach and conducive to corrosion. This article is devoted to examing the problem. It compares performance and economics for five different designs of a 7,000 dwt lumber ship. The differences involve such features as overhead underdeck tanks, transverse framing, monotonic framing, and the presence or absence of double sides." @default.
