- W576579798 abstract "This report summarizes the factual data, analyses and conclusions drawn from a pile load testing program undertaken at the proposed crossing of Hwy. 404 and 16th Avenue near Buttonvilles. Along the proposed route of Hwy. 404 which extends northerly from Woodbine Auenue of Hwy. 404 which extends northerly from Woodbine Avenue of these structures will be supported on piled foundations where piles will be driven into a complex glacio-fluvial subsoil. Any experience and knowledge gained through in-situ testing programs will provide a better understanding of the behaviour of various types of piles driven into such complex deposits and result in significant savings for the anticipated structures. Fieldwork for the investigation program consited of driving five test piles and four reaction piles, monitoring them during driving and restriking using the Pile Capacity Analyser and then loading the five test piles to failure. The field data was then used to determine a correlation between the static bearing capacity proven by the load test and the capacities obtained by various dynamic formula, wave equation analysis and static analysis. The pile testing program was primarily initiated to evaluate the comparative performance of various pile types, i.e. their load settlement characteristics and driveability. This would permit the selection of the most cost effective pile type/design load combination. Two unique aspects of this program when compared to previous MTC load tests are (i) the use of precast concrete piles of which the Ministry has limited experience, and (ii) the opportunity to study the reliability of the Pile Capacity Analyser. This program also presented the opportunity for the pile driving contractor to examine the performance and efficiency of his equipment, as well as evaluate various types of cushions." @default.
