- W577184462 abstract "The work puts into focus the possibilities, changes in behaviour and different effects related to new relationships between time, space, organisation and communications, which the development of information technology (IT) have as potentials. The key point for the study of the IT concept is the telecommunication element. The main interest is directed to the evolvement of flexible, distance independent forms of organisations and working conditions - especially telecommuting. An important overall outcome of the study is the widespread mapping of telecommuting in Sweden in 1995. This investigation shows that about 400,000 people telework 1 day or more per week. If all the people working at least 2 hours per week at home or in some other provisional workplace are included, the total number of telecommuters in Sweden amounts to approximately 700,000 people. This means that nearly one-fifth of the Swedish work force telecommutes regularly. The overwhelming majority telework 1-2 days per week. Compared to the results from the situation in 1986 there is a rather small increase in the number of telecommuters. But if account is also taken of the time-factor when telecommuting, an increase of about 30% can be seen. In addition, there is a potential of 600,000 people who can and want to telecommute for a similar length of time as those people who already do so. The report indicates the possibility of other forms of living being developed, different to those developed during the whole of the industrial era, which could satisfy people's wishes and companies needs in a different way, but will also confront different sectors of society with new requirements." @default.
