- W577484223 abstract "After more than 30 years of service, a 20-mile stretch of IH10 (Katy Freeway) became one of the most congested highways in the Houston, Texas area. The microsimulation software, INTEGRATION, along with Origin-Destination OD matrix generation software, QueensOD, and signal timing software, Synchro, were used to predict the AM and PM peak hour major traffic impacts during the reconstruction of the IH10 Katy Freeway. At first, a large-scale transportation network with integrated feature of freeway and surface street system was constructed using INTEGRATION. The network was about 20 miles in the East-West direction and 10 miles in the North-South direction. It covered about 300 signalized intersections, 4 fully directional interchanges, two toll roads, and 35 diamond interchanges. It also included HOV lane and ramp metering features. The Origin-Destination Matrices were developed based on the travel demand models from local MPO and QueensOD. Then, the model was calibrated to a known Base Year. Calibration of the model with the known traffic counts on the base year provided the ability to confidently forecast traffic conditions during future construction. Through the use of Dynamic Traffic Assignment and microsimulation of INTEGRATION, the traffic impacts of different construction scenarios were studied. Next, the results of simulation model were translated into signal timing optimization software, Synchro. By using Synchro, the construction impacts were quantified using the change of HCM delay and degradation of Level Of Services. Finally, the mitigation plans were proposed for those highly impacted intersections." @default.
