- W578901752 abstract "Particle shape and texture vary widely depending on the nature and the properties of the rocks from which they derive, as well as from the characteristics of the process. To identify the most relevant criteria that may lead to higher performances of crushed fines in ordinary concrete, a description of the petro-mineralogical data and of the processing data should be made. This presentation represents an exploratory laboratory study based on a selection of the intrinsic and manufactured properties of fine aggregates, in order to establish a qualitative (or semi-quantitative) distinction between the shape and texture effects on fresh concrete's end properties. To illustrate this purpose, the overall characteristics of two different eruptive crushed sands have been observed: granite sand and amphibolitic sand. The effect of shape and texture, as well as the impact of properties such as cleanliness or absorption capacity, on a rheological target (slump-flow on mortars) were compared for these two petrographic types (granite and amphibolite). The overall performances of these two sands were found to be equal, considering the combine effects of the shape and texture parameters on rheological properties. These were closely related to the specific petro-mineralogical behavior of each of the sand's nature." @default.
