- W581201428 abstract "This publication compiles the abstracts of studies completed in 2002 and 2003, coordinated and ordered by Finnra Bridge Engineering. Further information on the studies can be obtained from the person in charge at Finnra and the researcher of each study. The address of all people in charge of the study is: Finnra, Bridge Engineering, P.O. Box 33, FIN-00521 HELSINKI, FINLAND. The research subjects are listed. The effect of coatings on the durability of concrete bridge structures. The effect of aesthetic coatings on the durability and service life of concrete bridge structures was studied and a basis for new instructions on coating of concrete bridges to improve durability was established. Measurements of relative humidity and temperature on new concrete bridges. On new concrete bridges measurements were carried out to monitor changes of relative humidity and temperature in concrete bridge decks using current technology. The results were used in the research on bridge deck sheet membrane waterproofing blistering. Chloride ingress in concrete. A literature survey was carried out to clarify chloride diffusion and leaching in concrete. Models dealing with accumulation of chloride profiles are addressed. Chloride accumulation and leaching is among other things related to the bridge components, concrete surface location in the bridge, the distance from the roadway, rain, snow, drainage, splash water and periodical drying. General environmental conditions, compass points, direction of dominating winds, traffic density and commercial speed also have important roles. Degradation rate curves of bridge structures based on the inspection data in the bridge register. The condition class - age - distributions and the main factors affecting the rate of degradation of bridge structures based on the inspection data in the Bridge Register were studied. Data on the real degradation rate of structures is needed for improving the existing degradation models of structures. Degradation models are used in life cycle analyses among others. Cracking at the early age of wall-like structures. This research was focused on the reasons causing cracks during hardening in long wall-like structures that are fixed on an edge and how it is possible to estimate the cracking risk. In addition, different possibilities to eliminate and to minimise the cracking risk and to estimate their feasibility have been considered. Migrating inhibitors. The effect of the quality of the concrete on the penetration and the duration of function of migrating inhibitors based on organic amines was determined experimentally. The inhibitors studied were MCI- 2020 and Sika Ferrocard-903. Field investigation of new anode systems for cathodic protection of reinforced concrete structures - Nordic co-operative project. Economical and technical knowledge basis for the use of cathodic protection with simple anode systems that would be able to protect the edge beam reinforcements against corrosion initiated by chlorides, and the railing posts against galvanic corrosion were provided. For the field investigation four anode systems were assembled on the edge beam of the Oeland bridge. Allowable extent of rust on reinforcing bars for new bridges. A literature survey was carried out to find out what is the maximum harmless extent and type of rust of concrete reinforcing bars for new bridges. Also a method to estimate and classify the extent and type of rust was made." @default.
