- W581323767 abstract "This paper outlines the challenges posed by comparability tests for pavement management systems (PMS), and discusses the response of MARCH in its unique position as an organisation of local authorities in the UK. All MARCH staff are local authority employees, seven local authorities own the MARCH PMS, and about 50 use it. MARCH is thus able to understand local authority needs and concerns to an extent that is difficult for other PMS suppliers. MARCH also has considerable experience of working with the logical design of the UKPMS. The three main challenges raised by UKPMS comparability are: communication, change, and support and training. Detailed technical meetings will be needed between PMS software suppliers and the UKPMS Technical Support Team on the interpretation of UKPMS logical design. Suppliers and local authority users will need to discuss how to implement the comparability tests. It is important to stimulate and manage changes to the logical design and comparability tests, and to build support and training into the comparability tests. MARCH has begun to meet UKPMS requirements by: (1) offering support and training to its users; (2) developing a package for conversion between UKPMS and MARCH data; and (3) helping Norfolk County Council to pioneer a new approach to MARCH." @default.
