- W58249610 abstract "Some 100 different physiological blue light responses are known today, and the list is growing steadily. It is safe to assume that all blue light photoreceptors are of ancient lineage and have been probably derived from molecules and structures previously otherwise employed. Even if there appears to be a great diversity of the secondary and subsequent steps following the photoreceptor relaxation of the various light response signal chains, for many blue light responses, even if not for all, a uniform picture appears to crystallize concerning the primary reactions: (1) The photoreceptor pigment is a flavin, probably a flavoprotein, (2) the photoreceptor is bound to a membrane, often the plasmamembrane, in a highly dichroic manner, and (3) the primary reaction is a redox reaction. For details refer to several recent reviews which have been exclusively devoted to physiological blue light responses [12, 24, 27, 33, 40, 41]." @default.
