- W585464911 abstract "The AT 2 receptor (AT 2 R) is highly expressed in the nervous system and plays an important role not only in fetal development but also in adult life. During neuronal injuries, including stroke and spinal cord and peripheral nerve damage, a strong upregulation of the AT 2 R positively correlates with neuroregenerative processes. AT 2 R stimulation, either with endogenous ligands or with pharmacological agonists, engenders robust neuroregenerative and neuroprotective effects as demonstrated in a great number of animal studies. The recent development of selective small-molecule AT 2 R agonists has allowed the study of various signaling pathways mediated by this receptor in the nervous system. In addition, these compounds may serve as attractive leads in drug development." @default.
