- W586241397 abstract "In this work, we have taken advantage of both the presence of polymer chains grafted onto the C60 and the self-assembly of block copolymers, to organize the fullerenes at the nanoscale. ”Model” homopolymer stars C60(PS)f or copolymer stars C60(PS-b-PI)6 with variable functionality f (number of branches) have been prepared by anionic (f=6) or controlled radical (f=2,4) synthesis. Two approaches have been developed. The first approach consists in blending C60(PS)f stars in a host structuring matrix of polystyrene-b-polyisoprene (PS-b-PI). The conditions of the solubilization of the stars C60(PS)f, that is to say the conditions of organization of the C60 in the copolymer matrix, have been determined and the phase diagrams of these binary systems have been established. The C60(PS)f stars are exclusively incorporated into PS lamellae of the copolymer. Depending on the ratio between the molar mass of the stars and that of the PS block of the copolymer, two regimes of solubilization have been evidenced i. E. A regime of localized solubilization or a regime of uniform solubilization. We showed that the limit of the molar mass to the solubilization of stars in PS lamellae, before macrophase separation, depends on the star's functionality : the higher the functionality of the stars, the higher the molar mass of stars can be solubilized in the PS lamellae of a copolymer. That result demonstrates the impact of the architecture of the stars on the formation of morphologies. The second approach takes advantage of the self-organization of the copolymer branches PS-b-PI which are directly grafted onto the C60 core. Various microstructures (lamellae, hexagonal cylinders structures, gyroid phase) have been obtained depending on the volume fraction of PS, oPS, of the stars. Fullerenes of C60(PS-b-PI)6 stars are confined into PS domains allowing to form “C60 planes” (lamellar structures, oPS=0. 46 or 0. 59) or “C60 wires” (cylindrical morphologies, oPS=0. 20 or 0. 22). We also obtained a gyroid structure (oPS=0. 33) where the C60 is located in the two three-dimensional interpenetrated networks of PS. In all these microstructures, the inter-fullerenes distances remain small, typically in the range of 3 to 8 nm." @default.
