- W590187 abstract "Flow analysis is a powerful tool for industrial process control. It is playing a growing and significant role in process analytical technology (PAT). In comparison with other process analyzers, flow systems present the advantage of pre-processing the sample that makes their scope of applications wider. This chapter evaluates the ability of various flow analysis strategies to meet the challenges of industrial and process analysis and to indicate the direction of further and necessary development. The use of the flow analysis principles for industrial and process analysis are discussed. Flow analysis serve as a sample pre-treatment interface for common analytical instruments and detector systems employed in process analysis. The advantages and weaknesses of flow analysis applied to industry are also reviewed. The most common process analyzers are based on the determination of analytes where there is a significant change in some physical property that can be measured by chromatographs, conductometers, viscometers, and pH meters. However, there are some applications where a series of chemical reactions or sample pre-treatments are required for analysis. The industrial applications of flow analysis are the determination of moisture, bromine index, bromine number, acidity/alkalinity, and pH. It is also used for the evaluation of the exhaustion of industrial degreasing baths based on the determination of total grease and surfactant contents." @default.
